Abstract

Considerado como uno de los símbolos del extraordinario dinamismo alcanzado por la vida cultural valenciana a finales del siglo XVII, don José de Castellví, primer marqués de Villatorcas, reunió una fabulosa biblioteca- estimada como la más amplia de la Valencia de su tiempo- que, trascendiendo el uso privado, se convirtió en núcleo de reunión de importantes academias literarias y científicas y en fuente de información de destacados bibliógrafos valencianos del siglo XVIII. Ello justifica que el objetivo primordial de este trabajo sea el análisis en profundidad de sus contenidos. Además, se incide en el proceso de configuración de la biblioteca, en las razones que motivaron su confiscación durante la Guerra de Sucesión y en las complicadas circunstancias que rodearon a su vinculación y transmisión.
