[ES] Models of volcano deformation relate observed surface displacements to magmatic sources and are useful to constrain the source characteristics, mainly depth, geometry and pressure change. This study focuses on the volcanic unrest in El Hierro Island (Canary Islands) that initiated on July 2011 and ended up with the submarine eruption lasting from October 2011 to March 2012. An exhaustive study of the second stage of the pre-eruptive unrest is conducted, given the discrepancies between geodetic and petrological data, and it is investigated the possibility of evidencing the existence of a second magmatic source located at shallower levels in the south of the island. Therefore, it is carried out an inversion of geodetic data unpublished up until now and it is used the Finite Elements Method to determine the location and characteristics of the source in different homogeneous and heterogeneous media. Finally, the results obtained will be discussed taking into account previous interpretations to better constrain the magmatic plumbing system in El Hierro 2011-2012.
