[EN] A series of experiments have been performed in three populations of rats: neonates (10, 15 and 20-day-old rats), weanning (27, 32 and 37-day-old rats) and adult rats. These animals were thyrectomized, treated with metimazol and sacrified after 5, 10 and 15 days of thyrectomy. Rats were subsequently recovered with 1,5 μg of tiroxin per 100 g of body weight in the case of neonates and 1,75 μg in the case of adults. The recovery was also made by pellet implantation. Circulating IGFs and IGFBPs were determined as well as the expression of hepatic mRNA. It is concluded that the action of the thyroid hormones on the IGF/IGFBP axis is age related. In addition, is concluded that insulin may mediate the effect of thyroid hormones.
