Las bacterias como fuente de vacunas

Abstract

Las bacterias y virus son microorganismo ubicuos en la naturaleza, que además poseen una gran diversidad biológica. Los microorganismos son capaces de relacionarse con el resto de seres vivos incluyendo organismos superiores como plantas y animales y por supuesto incluyendo al hombre. Estas relaciones son muy variadas, incluyendo aquellas relaciones que son beneficiosas para el ser humano, como puede ser el caso del microbioma humano que es el conjunto de bacterias que tenemos en nuestro organismo. Se ha calculado que aproximadamente hay 10 células microbianas en nuestro organismo por cada célula de nuestro cuerpo (103 células humanas frente a 104 bacterias en nuestras mucosas y piel equivalentes a 1,5 Kg de nuestro peso corporal). Estas bacterias realizan funciones esenciales para nosotros, como aportarnos vitaminas, ayudarnos en la digestión, ayudan a luchar contra las bacterias patógenas, previenen enfermedades, etc.
