Abstract

[EN] El martillo y el espejo, or the hammer and the mirror, investigates the relationships between political power, intellectual life and literary creation in the Cuban Revolution. The period studied runs from the sixties, which was a golden age for Cuban literature, through to the controversial five-year period known as the "Quinquenio Gris" (1971-1976). This journey of discovery draws upon a variety of materials and sources including everything from texts by Fidel Castro and Ernesto "Che" Guevara through to an analysis of plays, narratives and poetry, taking in a review of the debates in the journals of the time and interviews with actors involved in the construction of this political/cultural field
