Abstract

El Cabezo de la Sal (UTM: 672611;4250818) constituye uno de los iconos identitarios del paisaje de Pinoso y de la Comarca del Medio Vinalopó presentando un valor geológico, botánico, faunístico y cultural únicos. En la actualidad, se encuentra amenazado por las actividades extractivas de salmueras y el uso intensivo de actividades deportivas, entre otros. Se trata de un relieve de origen diapírico con valor patrimonial ligado a la gran geodiversidad y biodiversidad que contiene. La geodiversidad del Cabezo de la Sal es tanto geomorfológica, como petrológica y mineralógica. Es uno de los afloramientos más meridionales del Trías de facies germánica, situado en el ámbito Prebético Interno. Está constituido por un diapiro salino en cuya zona superficial se encuentra un cap rock con dolomías, calizas y materiales anhidrítico-yesíferos brechificados. En zonas protegidas de la erosión superficial (cuevas) pueden encontrarse capas anhidríticas conteniendo halita. La presencia de ofitas completa la variedad petrológica. Se ha desarrollado un surco periférico con materiales detríticos, por donde transcurren ramblas saladas y llegan a formarse episódicamente algunos humedales salinos. La presencia de dolinas de colapso y simas completa la diversidad geomorfológica. Minerales autigénicos del Trías: Jacinto de Compostela, cuarzo morión y teruelita (dolomita rica en hierro) así como hematites, pirita, magnesita, celestina y barita constituyen la geodiversidad mineralógica. Por su interés científico, didáctico y su singularidad paisajística el Cabezo de la Sal está en proceso de ser declarado Monumento Natural, figura de protección promovida por el Ayuntamiento de Pinoso dentro de la legislación de la Comunidad Valenciana de espacios naturales protegidos.
