La brecha de género en las ciencias físicas

Abstract

Desde hace unos años las mujeres reciben el 65% de los grados otorgados por las universidades públicas europeas y más del 45% de los doctorados pero sólo el 21% de las cátedras de universidad. Cuando nos restringimos a las facultades de Ciencias Físicas e ingenierías, estas cifras son mucho más bajas ya que la proporción de mujeres matriculadas no supera el 30%, y tienen el 13% de las cátedras 1. La baja presencia de mujeres en el área de las Ciencias Físicas se observa también en el ejercicio profesional. En el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) las mujeres representan el 35,7% del Personal Investigador Funcionario pero en el Área de Ciencias y Tecnologías Físicas son el 21,9%, cifra muy inferior a la que encontramos en otras áreas de ciencias experimentales como en Ciencias y Tecnologías Químicas con un 44,5% de mujeres 2. Las causas de la baja participación de mujeres en el campo de la Física son complejas pero, sin duda, están relacionadas con las desigualdades entre mujeres y hombres que existen en nuestra sociedad y que constituyen lo que conocemos como la brecha de género. Es importante corregir esta situación, eliminar las barreras que la ocasionan y conseguir que el desarrollo de la Física se base en el trabajo cooperativo de mujeres y hombres.

Conferencia inaugural dada en el Gender in Physics Day (GiPD), de lema "Políticas de igualdad de género en física: de la escuela a la carrera investigadora", celebrado en La Laguna (Tenerife) los días 23 y 24 de octubre de 2017.
