El metal como fuente de quiralidad en complejos octaédricos de rodio(III) e iridio(III)

Abstract

La presente Memoria trata del diseño y preparación de un nuevo tipo de catalizadores asimétricos basados en complejos octaédricos de rodio(III) e iridio(III) con ligandos tetradentados tripodales que presentan un modo de coordinación kappa-4. En todos estos compuestos el metal es un centro estereogénico. Se comienza diseñando juiciosamente los ligandos y a continuación se lleva a cabo, en primer lugar, la síntesis de complejos de estequiometría [MCl2-kappa-4-L)], donde L representa a los ligandos tetradentados mencionados. A partir de estos compuestos, se obtienen precursores catalíticos en los que uno o los dos átomos de cloro son sustituidos por moléculas de disolvente. En la preparación de estos precursores, se detectan, aíslan y caracterizan intermedios metálicos mono, di y trinucleares. Los intermedios polinucleares se forman con perfecto reconocimiento quiral. Los racematos obtenidos de los complejos de rodio se resuelven empleando fenilglicinato enantiopuro como auxiliar quiral. Los nuevos complejos solvatados son catalizadores activos para la reacción de Friedel-Crafts entre trans-beta-nitroestireno y N-metil-2-metilindol y para la reacción de cicloadición de Diels-Alder entre metacroleína y ciclopentadieno. Se obtienen elevadas diastereoselectividades y relaciones enantioméricas superiores a 99/1 para el cicloaducto Diels-Alder. Se proponen mecanismos para las reacciones catalíticas sobre la base de estudios teóricos y experimentales. Todos los procesos estudiados tanto los estequiométricos como los subestequiométricos transcurren con retención de la configuración en el metal. Los resultados obtenidos inauguran una nueva clase de compuestos metálicos chiral-at-metal que son capaces de multiplicar eficientemente su quiralidad. La naturaleza modular de los ligandos tripodales tetradentados, junto con la posibilidad de emplear otros iones d6 de metales de transición, abren una nueva vía de aplicación de compuestos metálicos quirales en el metal en diversas transformaciones orgánicas enantioselectivas.
