Un mrecado beneficial: notas sobre mercantilización de beneficios eclesiásticos en Castilla y Portugal

Abstract

Gracias a algunos estudios clásicos y recientes, conocemos los principales rasgos de la enorme estructura que sirvió de sustento financiero al clero secular en el Antiguo Régimen, el sistema beneficial. Sin embargo, casi nada se ha dicho aún del proceso que hizo posible la conformación en torno al mismo de un mercado de índole transnacional fiscalizado por la Santa Sede, hacia la cual salieron desde la Península Ibérica grandes cantidades de capital. Así, estas páginas pretenden bosquejar una línea de investigación, la de la mercantilización de beneficios eclesiásticos, prácticamente desatendida hasta el momento. Serán examinados sus instrumentos, sus prácticas y la evolución comparada del fenómeno en catedrales de Castilla y Portugal.

Este trabajo se enmarca en el proyecto de post-doctorado financiado por la Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia de Portugal (SFRH/BPD/85917/2012) y en el proyecto I+D+i (HAR 2012-35752), financiado por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad del Gobierno de España.
