Antella, tous y sumacàrcer: una encrucijada del comercio y el contrabando entre los reinos de Valencia y Castilla

Abstract

Antella, Tous y Sumacàrcer eran tres señorías laicas–pobladas por moriscos– estratégicamente emplazadas en el tránsito entre el curso medio y la llanura aluvial del río Júcar; el aporte fluvial más caudaloso del antiguo reino de Valencia. Esto posibilitaba un significativo transporte de mercancías–en su mayor parte maderos–entre la región conquense y la comarca de la Ribera del Júcar. No obstante, a partir del siglo XVI adquirió también una inusitada relevancia la red secundaria de caminos, que previo paso por Antella, Tous y Sumacàrcer, enlazaba estas tierras con la Meseta castellana. De este modo, lo que tendría de ser a priori una infraestructura viaria accesoria, se convirtió en una de las más concurridas en el contrabando de seda a medio camino entre los dos puertos aduaneros: Requena y Almansa
