Abstract

El reino de Córdoba vivió un importante crecimiento económico a lo largo del siglo XVI, siendo el grupo mercantil el principal beneficiado. En esta comunicación trataremos de analizar cómo la riqueza obtenida a través del comercio permitió a muchas familias, la mayoría de ellas conversas, ascender socialmente, llegando algunos de sus miembros a conseguir oficios públicos, hidalguías, hábitos de órdenes militares e, incluso, títulos nobiliarios. Para lograrlo pusieron en marcha una serie de estrategias basadas en el poder del dinero y, por supuesto, la ocultación de su progenie hebrea.

Este trabajo se inscribe en el marco del Proyecto de Investigación I+D+i Nobles judeoconversos. El origen judío de las élites andaluzas (ss. XV-XVII), HAR 2012-35752, financiado por el Ministerio de Economía y competitividad. Becario FPU (AP2009-4979), adscrito al Departamento de Historia Medieval y Ciencias y Técnicas Historiográficas de la Universidad de Granada.
