Incendios forestales, encrucijada natural y social

Incendios forestales, encrucijada natural y social

Abstract

[EN] The current relationship between wildfires and our society is precarious. Given that fires are and will be present in our ecological and forest systems, a paradigm shift is requires to learn living with fire. Viewing fires as an external problem that must be eliminated does not help at all. By integrating the natural history of our ecosystems with the needs of our society, we can achieve landscapes with ecologically and socially sustainable fire regimes. The paradigm shift becomes more urgent with global change, as changes in the fire regime can only be addressed if wildfire and burns are integrated into our socio-ecological systems.
