Abstract

[EN]: As result of this work, a methodology for development of a sustainable product is raised and put into practice. The historical evolution and current status are addressed about sustainable development, its concept (three dimensions), its application on industry and its assessment and application on product design. Besides, a deep study about product design is made, and different methodologies and approaches which have appeared to help to designer have been studied. As result of this research, a methodology to redesign sustainable products based on the life cycle tool has been developed. This methodology made of three steps: sustainability assessment, product redesign and design comparison, allows applying and assessing alternatives of design with metrics and indicators of sustainability. This methodology is applied to 4 different products it has allowed to check the appropriate sequence of phases proposed to achieve an improved design taken into account the three sustainability dimensions. In the case of study is made an assessment in detail of the product, its characteristics and its specifications, giving place to elaborate the product inventory. Some redesign alternatives are proposed and the suitability is evaluated for each alternative from sustainability indicators. Finally, metrics and indicators obtained are compared between initial and redesign product. During this work, metrics and indicators used for each case study are described, because they are an important part in the more appropriate alternative selection.
