El ideal de nobleza y el ethos noble eran objeto de debate y disputa a finales del siglo XV y comienzos del XVI. El hombre era valorado en la sociedad por “su calidad, linaje, poder o dineros”. La Corona, desde 1505, ejerció un fuerte control sobre el tipo de emigrante que podía viajar a las Indias, solo se permitía hacer la travesía atlántica a quienes pudiesen acreditar su “limpieza de sangre”.
