Des de sempre, la relació dels humans amb els voltors ha estat molt estreta. El benefici recíproc d’ambdós ha estat evident ja que els primers s’han beneficiat de la labor sanitària dels voltors, els quals, al seu torn, han obtingut els recursos alimentaris necessaris per sobreviure, no sempre fàcils d’obtenir com a conseqüència de la seva imprevisibilitat espacial i temporal.
