Abstract

[FR] L’article analyse les idées de Juan Huarte sur l’“esprit” le plus approprié à la médecine, en particulier l ’opposition supposée entre les capacités rationnelles produisant la théorie et la pratique de cet art, ainsi que les dispositions particulières des juifs pour la pratique médicale. De même il examine le rapport de Huarte à l ’activité médicale à la lumière de son témoignage et d’autres sources, qui nous informent sur sa formation médicale à Alcalà et sa pratique professionnelle ultérieure.

[ES] En este artículo se analizan las ideas de Juan Huarte sobre el "espíritu" más apropiado para la medicina, en particular la supuesta oposición entre las capacidades racionales que producen la teoría y la práctica de este arte, así como las disposiciones particulares de los judíos para la práctica médica. También se examina la relación de Huarte con la actividad médica a la luz de sus relatos y otras fuentes que nos informan sobre su formación médica en Alcalà y su posterior práctica profesional.

[EN] This article analyzes the ideas of Juan Huarte on the most appropriate “mind” for medicine, in particular the supposed opposition between the rational capacities producing the theory and practice of this art, as well as the particular disposition of Jewish people for medical practice. It also examines Huarte’s relationship with medical activity in light of his accounts and other sources that tell us of his medical training in Alcalà and his later professional practice.
