Nuevas perspectivas para el estudio de la muerte y los entramados de solidaridad social en Sevilla: las reglas de cofradía como fuente documental

Abstract

Las reglas de cofradía constituyen una fuente documental imprescindible para abordar los estudios de la muerte desde una nueva perspectiva. Las cofradías constituyeron así un elemento de suma importancia en el entramado social desde su nacimiento, sobre todo por su carácter mutualista, que las convertía en una institución clave a la hora prestar ayuda a sus integrantes en el momento de su muerte. De esta manera, el análisis de las reglas cofrades de las cofradías de la Santa Vera Cruz, de la Santa Casa de la Misericordia y de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación y Doce Apóstoles (principios del siglo XVI) nos permite ilustrar la importancia de esta fuente para el estudio del tránsito mortuorio, en el que además podemos observar como las actitudes ante la muerte cobran un nuevo sentido, el de la solidaridad social; una idea que impregna estos documentos y que nos ponen de manifiesto la importancia de la ayuda comunitaria en dichas formaciones. Además, las reglas cofrades ya mencionadas también nos ofrecen otro tipo de información que nos permite realizar un acercamiento al funcionamiento mutualista desde la óptica de la historia social y cultural.
