Abstract

[EN] This PhD Thesis focuses in the use of crop reference evapotranspiration (ETo) in Spain as the best available variable to estimate the the atmospheric evaporative demand (AED). This variable can also be used to calculate aridity and drought indices as well as to improve calculation of crop water requirements. Moreover, the combined study of ETo with actual evapotranspiration data could improve the knowledge of energy and water balances, helping to verify if an acceleration of the hydrological cycle is certainly happening as a consequence of climate change, as some authors suggest.
