La imagen política de santa Madrona en la Barcelona del Seiscientos

Abstract

El nombramiento en 1564 de santa Madrona como copatrona de la ciudad de Barcelona, junto a la tradicional patrona santa Eulalia, tiene su reflejo más allá del plano religioso. Tal y como han puesto de relieve algunos estudios recientes, los santos patronos adquirieron connotaciones identitarias y políticas en época moderna. Partiendo de esta tesis inicial y tras haber localizado una serie de representaciones visuales y literarias –en su mayoría del siglo XVII– donde la santa aparece inscrita en un contexto civil e incluso político, nuestra intención es entender cuál es la relación que se establece entre la imagen de santa Madrona y la política barcelonesa del Seiscientos.
