El conde de Elda y la guerra de Sucesión. El camino final del ascenso social

Abstract

Este trabajo se centra en la figura de Francisco Coloma Pujades y Borja (1656-1712), V conde de Elda, y su participación en la Guerra de Sucesión. Este noble valenciano dedicó gran parte de su existencia a la carrera militar, escalando hasta llegar a la cúspide de la jerarquía interna y ganándose el reconocimiento de la Corona por sus servicios. En su dimensión política, se inició sirviendo al Reino de Valencia como miembro del Estamento Militar, pero la suerte de los acontecimientos lo empujó a actuar más allá de las fronteras regnícolas cuando se desencadenó la Guerra de Sucesión. Situado en el círculo más próximo del líder austracista, actuó en los diferentes organismos encargados de gobernar los territorios ganados al Borbón, culminando su cursus honorum con la obtención de la Grandeza de España. Sin embargo, también sufrió las duras consecuencias de la guerra, esto es, las confiscaciones borbónicas y la vía del exilio, con la consiguiente perturbación de la realidad familiar.
