Abstract

Los primeros establecimientos franceses en las Antillas datan del periodo 1625-1640. Esta expansión coincide con la perdida del dominio español en aquellas aguas, debido en gran medida a la intervención naval holandesa, que paso a controlar la mayor parte del comercio marítimo de la zona. La primera isla en la que se establecieron los franceses fue la de Saint-Christophe, hoy st. Kitts en 1625. Posteriormente en 1635 tuvo lugar la colonización de la Guadaloupe y la Martinique..
