Abstract

El Archipiélago filipino, situado frente a las costas de China, entre Japón y las Molucas, se hallaba en la Edad Moderna en posición privilegiada para centralizar el tráfico oriental. Por eso, cuando España renunció a sus derechos sobre estas islas, la atención de la Corona se fijó en las Filipinas, cuya colonización se debió desde el primer momento a la iniciativa oficial.
