[EN] The present work is divided into two parts: the first incluides a complilation and discussion of the exact system of the Mediterranean Centracantidae, wich as time goes on has suffered a lot of alterations respecting the number of the species wich are enclosed in this family. We have realize a conscientious investigation of the differen species wich are admitted by various authors and we consider with Sei that the species of this family -letting alone that the Centracanthus cirrus Raf. is not found in the waters of the Adriatic Sea- have to be reduced to: Spicara smaris L., Spicara chryselis C.V., Spicara maena L. [ES] El presente trabajo, iniciado a finales de 1950, comprende una revisión de la sistemática de la familia CENTRACÁNTIDOS (Maenidos) y un estudio de la biología y biometría de la XUCLA (Spicara chryselis C.V). Dificultades surgidas al determinar sistemáticamente la especie en estudio nos obligaron a hacer una revisión de dicha familia, ya que las variaciones morfológicas que experimentan sus componentes han dado lugar a la diversidad de opiniones que, a través de los tiempos, han sido expuestas sobre su clasificación.
