Water masses distribution in the upwelling region off NW Africa. II November

Abstract

La distribution des masses d'eau au mois de novembre dans la zone de l'upwelling du nord-ouest africain entre 16° et 24°N est exposée. La nappe d'eau superficielle au sud semble être formée d’une eau provenant du contre-courant guinéen avec une salinité de 35-4%o et une température de 2TC qui s’étend jusqu’à 18°30'N. Par l’ouest pénètre une eau tropicale avec une salinité de 36-5%c et une température de 24°C qui est séparée de la côte par l’upwelling de l’Eau Centrale de (’Atlantique Sud (ECAS) et de l’Eau Centrale de l’Atlantique Nord (ECAN). La distribution de l’eau centrale nord et sud est, en général, similaire à celle trouvée en campagnes précédentes. Un coin de l’ECAN vers NO-SE divise l’ECAS en deux branches, l’une qui avance vers le nord contre le talus continental et qui remonte du Cap Timiris au Cap Blanc. Plus au nord remonte l’ECAN
