Abstract

Con motivo de la reciente publicación del Inventario de escultura de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando ' queremos al respecto precisar el autor de dos relieves que en el mismo inventario citado se recogen como obras anónimas del s. XV~IcIo n los números 34 y 48. El primero de ellos es un relieve en mármol del arcángel San Gabriel, y el segundo, un busto de la Virgen, también en relieve. Ambos forman pareja y en su conjunto se trata de «La Encarnación o Anunciación». La obra, aunque conservada actualmente en la Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, pertenece al Museo del Prado y se halla como depósito en la referida Academia. Así se hace constar en el Catálogo de Escultura del Museo del Prado 2, en donde, entre otros detalles, se especifica que ambos decoraban el Salón de Juntas de la Academia. En el mismo Catálogo se registran como: «La Virgen Mana, sin marco; alt. 0,30; anch., 0,25; fondo, 0,30. Mármol de Italia. Relieve ovalado de un busto femenino de perfil, con un paño sobre la cabeza, que mira hacia la izquierda. Marco de jaspe gris veteado de claro. Es pareja del relieve número 258 del Arcángel San Gabnel, con el que. en conjunto, representa La Anunciación...)). En cuanto al Arcángel, el aludido Catálogo lo describe igualmente como «medallón ovalado con el busto de perfil, en bajo relieve, de un adolescente con alas que mira hacia la derecha, medio desnudo y con una cinta que le sujeta el cabello...».
