Abstract

[EN] During the reign of Fernando VII, Spain continued within the sphere of influence of the conservative powers. The change in the system of succession lead to a complete alteration in the policy of alliances. Though Austria, Prussia and Russia exercised a leading role among the absolutist nations, the ,most important confrontations took place with the kingdoms of the Italian peninsula. The influence of the Spanish events of 1820 on the Italian peninsula; the increase in their political instability; family relations between the reigning houses on both peninsulas; and their condition as secondary elements in the confrontation of the blocks are some of the keys to understanding the tensions in bilateral relations.
