Abstract

<p>En este trabajo se demuestra que, a pesar de que casi todos los gobemantes militares bolivianos obtuvieron el poder mediante la fuerza, respetaron en esencia los principios de la ciudadanía restringida decretados en 1839, lo que permitió que las elecciones fueran el mecanismo por excelencia para aprender y ejercer la representación popular y la soberanía nacional a lo largo del siglo XIX.</p>
