Abstract

Tras una primera etapa en la que los estudios ictiológicos se enfocaron desdo un punto de vista biológico general; actualmente, en el laboratorio del Grao de Castellón se viene concediendo mayor atenciónn a los problemas relacionados con las estadisticas vitales. Con este fin el material es tratado de la siguiente forma.: 1º.-Tras un breve examen, y según la especie y época, el material del lote es, en cierto número de ocasiones, separado en machos y en hembros. Esta operación se realiza con preferencia en las especies bentónicas. 2º.- División del material en grupos do tallas de 5 en 5 mm. Cada grupo de talla se pesa en conjunto, apreciándose el gramo. En el caso do haber sido separados los machos de las hembras, en ésta y siguientes operaciones, cada sublote es tratado independientemente. 3º.- Extracción de escamas. En los clupeidos se toman las internas situadas cuatro o cinco filas debajo de la aleta dorsal. En los espáridos las que están a la altura deL borde superior de la inserción de aleta pectoral y debajo de la primera dorsal (entre el 6º y 7º radios en el pajel y 7º y 8º en la boga). En el salmonete se han dejado de sacar escamas (y también otolitos) al haberse observado, en un reciente estudio, oue en el de nuestra costa la lopidometría es una técnica costosa o insegura.
