[RRI: concept and aim] The term Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) has gained increasing EU policy relevance in the last years in the context of the Horizon 2020 Strategy. Responsible Research and Innovation is an approach that anticipates and assesses potential implications and societal expectations with regard to research and innovation, with the aim to foster the design of inclusive and sustainable research and innovation. RRI implies that societal actors (researchers, citizens, policy makers, business, third sector organisations, etc.) work together during the whole research and innovation process in order to better align both the process and its outcomes with the values, needs and expectations of society. The aim of the event is to provide an overall understanding of RRI and its different pillars (public engagement, open access, gender equality, science education, ethics, and governance). Participants will gain hands-on knowledge about how to put RRI into practice (personal, institutional and project level) and will have the opportunity to co-create, pilot and test bottom-up RRI solutions. This will prepare them for the future FP9 Framework and its social-ethical requirements. The event is organized as part of the NewHoRRIzon Project and its Social Lab focusing the on the Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation Work Programme. Social labs are not workshops. They are intensive, experimental interventions. They bring together people from across the system to seek root causes behind their problems and then collaborate on devising and testing solutions aimed at key leverage points. This work continues in the “lab” of the real world – over time and in context. [Target group] The event is designed for members of the NCP.WIDE_NET project, who would like to promote acceptance and implementation of the RRI principles within their national network and across the SEWP programme.

[Challenges, Potential Opportunities and Synergies: concept and aim] The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is an independent EU body that is boosting Europe’s ability to innovate. The EIT nurtures entrepreneurial talent and supports new ideas, bringing together the ‘knowledge triangle’ of leading actors from research, business and higher education to form dynamic pan-European partnerships called Innovation Communities (KICs). The aim of this training is to deliver a general overview of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology and its potential role in supporting NCPs as well as creating synergies for better use of resources offered by the European Commission to the NCP_WIDE.NET members. During the training participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the principles of the EIT Innovation Model, the EIT Regional Innovation Scheme, success stories, examples of EIT and its Innovation Communities’ activities and potential synergies between the EIT Community and SEWP NCPs. The workshop will consist of two parts. The first part will concern the EIT in general (EIT Community, EIT Regional Innovation Scheme, success stories supported and financed by EIT etc). The second part will revolve around different EIT Innovation Communities. In this part the participants will have also the opportunity to exchange current practices related to EIT as well as role of NCPs in this process. The last interactive session should allow elaborating the points for further collaboration. [Target group] The training is targeted towards members of the NCP.WIDE_NET transnational network project, both experienced and less experienced who would like to improve their knowledge in the field of EIT and are interested in dealing with synergies in the area of EIT and its Innovation Communities.
