Abstract

El simple número medio de especies de copépodos por mes ya indica fuertes variaciones de una estación del año a otra. En los meses invernales se encuentran mezcladas especies de procedencias diversas: neríticas, oceánicas y batipelágicas. Las especies batipelágicas se han observado hasta ahora sólo durante los meses que van de noviembre a febrero. Aunque se admite que muchas de estas especies batipelágicas ascienden durante la noche, no es esta circunstancia la que explica su presencia en superficie, pues todas las pescas fueron hechas durante el día, sólo algunas a la madrugada. En las muestras recogidas en 1950 y 1951, la presencia de estas especies coincide con los fenómenos indicadores de afloramiento aguas profundas. Pequeñas desviaciones pueden atribuir se a insuficiencia de los datos. Las especies batipelágicas a que se hace referencia son las siguientes, enumeradas de más a menos frecuentes: Neocalanus gracilis, Pleuromamma gracilis, Aetideus armatus, Heterorhabdus papilliger, Euaetideus giesbrechti, Scolecithricella sp., Scolecithricella vittata, Phaenna spinifera, Scolecithrix danae, Halpptilus mucronatus, Pleuromamma abdominalis, Lucicutia flavicornis.
