El abono verde, un manejo controvertido en los cultivos herbaceos de secano

Abstract

La evolución del nitrógeno en el suelo durante la vegetación de la veza (Fig. 1), sigue el ciclo del cultivo. Cuando la planta está presente (invierno y primavera), los niveles de nitratos en el suelo son bajos, bien porque el nitrógeno dejado por el cultivo precedente (cebada) es bajo y el nitrógeno fijado por los Rhizobium es utilizado por la leguminosa. Una vez terminado el ciclo del cultivo se inicia los procesos de liberación de nitrógeno acumulado tanto en los nódulos como en la biomasa vegetal del cultivo, llegando a un máximo en otoño, el cual será aprovechado por el cultivo siguiente si no hay lluvias que lo laven. La cantidad de nitrógeno en forma de nitratos fijados por hectárea para el siguiente cultivo está entre los 60 y 70 kg.
