Abstract

[EN] The plan of Salobreña's fortress presents a tripartite organization composed by three enclosures with different uses. The implantation of its three doors responds to a very sophisticated design linked to the territory that surrounds it and its control: the port, the medina and the countryside. Inside, there is a complex system of points of control designed to guarantee the maximum of safety, especially of the enclosure placed to the highest level where is located the court space. In this place, the main residence was identified, crowned by a tower (the qubba), and an adjoining bath located to the Northeast. On the first one, most of its structures have been eliminated due to his location in the highest part of his rocky base. The location of the bath, to a lower level, makes clear the conservation of most of his structures, which allows to know the principal elements of his plan. The archaeological remains of both buildings are more than sufficient to enable to affirm that they are based on the same model of Comares’ palace of the Alhambra. After the conquest of Salobreña by the Catholic Monarchs, the fortress underwent important changes in its physiognomy in order to adapt it to the new architectural requirements and the use of the artillery.
