[ES] El reconocimiento de los derechos del niño se inserta dentro de un largo trayecto histórico, que permite valorar el papel destacado que ejercieron una gran variedad de actores no estatales durante más de dos siglos. Si bien la sociedad decimonónica comenzó a ser consciente de las necesidades que padecían los menores de edad gracias a escritores como Charles Dickens o Jules Vallès, los avances científicos y el desarrollo de la nueva pedagogía impulsaron la elaboración de diversos proyectos durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX. A partir de ese momento, la labor desempeñada por distintas organizaciones transnacionales fue decisiva para la consolidación de una serie de instrumentos jurídicos, que buscaban garantizar la protección de los niños y evitar las terribles situaciones que vivían muchos de ellos.
[EN] The recognition of children's rights is inserted into a long historical journey, which enables us to assess the prominent role exerted by a wide range of non-state actors for over two centuries. Whereas the nineteenth-century society began to be aware of the special needs of minors thanks to writers like Charles Dickens or Jules Vallès, scientific advances and the new pedagogy promoted the development of various projects during the first decades of the twentieth century.From that moment on, the work done by some transnational organisations was crucial for the consolidation of different legal instruments aimed at guaranteeing the protection of children and avoiding the appalling living conditions that many of them were suffering.
