The incidence of fruit physiological disorders that cause corky spots, such as bitter pit and lenticel blotch pit in apples and other alterations in different plant species, impair the organoleptic and aesthetic quality of the fruit and cause serious losses in production. Calcium is a key element involved in the development of such disorders and in fruit quality. Plant tissues with high calcium levels fall later in senescence and are more resistant, not only to the incidence of corky spots, but also to pathogen attack.
