[EN] The mating and social system strategies that cause an increase in reproductive success currently attempt to explain the distribution of hermaphroditism and their advantages in fish. However, environmental factors can influence the distribution of hermaphroditism. Nevertheless, how these factors, along with phylogenetic and physiological constraints, favor its presence is still poorly understood. In this study, we analyzed some ecological variables to determine their possible influence on the appearance of hermaphroditism versus gonochorism in the Serranidae family. We also compared, within hermaphrodites, sequential versus simultaneous hermaphrodites
