Abstract

[ES] La existencia de valores fluctuantes en la proporción de machos y hembras en poblaciones naturales de copépodos es un fenómeno muy frecuente que al guardar, en ocasiones, cierta relación con las oscilaciones propias de la población, ha sugerido la posibilidad de que se trate de un mecanismo homeostático que permite a la población controlar, de alguna manera, su propio desarrollo. Así, HEINLE (1970), en Acartia tonsa, le atribuye este papel, ya que encuentra una correlación negativa significativa entre la densidad de individuos y la producción de hembras, tanto en poblaciones naturales como en cultivos de laboratorio, a pesar de que, genéticamente, los dos sexos pueden estar igualmente representados. [EN] A statistical technique, time series analysis, has been introduced, allowing the detection of cycles both in copepod populations and females proportion, as well as the split of this cycle as a consequence of two mechanisms: the negative correlation existing between female proportion and the population density 30 days later and the positive one, between population density and the female proportion after 15 days.
