Abstract

[EN] To obtain hybrids through "embryo rescue" technique, crosses were made among plants from seven populations of Phaseolus coccineus from the North of Spain and eight pure lines of Phaseolus vulgaris. To increase the number of viable pods adequate to be rescue, different treatments were given to the female flowers (P. coccineus). The best results were observed when the cross was made before 12 P.M., the temperature during the cross was below 24°C and to 35"C twenty four hours afterwards. The most satisfactory treatment was the application of sucrose (4%) to the stigma of the female flower for its effectiveness, time economy and low cost.
