[ES] Este artículo comienza explicando las relaciones entre la sociología y la historia para analizar posteriormente cómo se ha estudiado el conflicto social en las ciencias sociales y, especialmente, las teorías sociológicas sobre los movimientos sociales y la protesta y su utilidad en las investigaciones históricas. Concluye con un necesariamente breve aná- lisis de los estudios sobre los movimientos sociales en la historiografía española, especialmente de los análisis de la movilización producida entre 1876 y 1939, y en relación con la consolidación de la historia social española y los cambios producidos en ésta en los últimos años.
[EN] This article begins explaining the relationship between Sociology and History to later analyse how the social conflict has been studied by the social sciences. It gives especial attention to the sociological theories about social movements and protest and their usefulness for the historical research. It concludes with a necessarily brief analysis of the studies of social movements done in the Spanish Historiography, especially the analyses of the mobilization that took place between 1876 and 1939, and in relation to the consolidation of the Spanish Social History and the changes that have happened in it during the last years.
