Abstract

[EN] Eight sweet corn populations have been tested against 73 maize landraces from Northwestern Spain to determine their performance and utility in a sweet corn breeding program which objective is to obtain sweet corn varieties adapted to this area. The populations Early Evergreen, Stowell’s White Evergreen and EPS11 are excessively late, Golden Bantam (Maine) and Black Mexican are too short. Golden Bantam (New York), Whipples Yellow and A59 will be the most adequate from these eight population to be used in a breeding program for adaptation of sweet corn.
