[EN] The number of teats of the parents (NP=male, NM=female) and of each of 20.940 piglets (NC) have been computed in 2.615 litters obtained along 50 years in a closed herd of swine. The distribution of NC for parent teat average (NPM) is leptocurtic with a bias tendency toward even numbers. This tendency for NP and NM does not affect the tendency of NC. The mode of the latter was 14. The Simple regression coefficients of NC on NPM were significant with values of 0.57, 0.47 and 0.38 for the litter groups with inbreeding means of 12.5%(group A), 8.2% (group B), and 60.9% (group C), respectively. The Y—interceps were 5.51, 7.08 and 8.73 respectively. The partial regression coefficients of NC on NP and NM were 0.21 and 0.32 for group A, 0.20 and 0.26 for group B, and 0.16 and 0.39 for group C. The multiple correlation coefficients were, for the same three groups, 0.97, 0.96 and 0.93 respectively. Maternal effects on NC are noted, while there is no inbreeding depression for the same trait.
