[EN]: Social networks have become an unavoidable phase in personal, social and, above all, professional and academic communication. Its large number continues to increase over the years, which is a difficulty for a professional pediatrics when choosing which social network is best suited to be aware of the development of their profession. This article describes the application and usefulness of the four major social networks for professional and scholarly communication: Mendeley, Linkedln, Academia.edu and ResearchGate. [ES]: Las redes sociales se han convertido en una fase ineludible en la comunicación personal, social y, sobre todo, profesional y académica. Su gran número sigue incrementándose con los años, lo que supone una dificultad para el profesional de la pediatría a la hora de elegir qué red social es más adecuada para estar al corriente del desarrollo de su profesión. El presente artículo describe la aplicación y la utilidad de las cuatro redes sociales más importantes para la comunicación profesional y académica: Mendeley, LinkedIn, Academia.edu y ResearchGate.
