[EN] This paper presents the first results of a prosopographical data base that has been developed in the current research project. The aim of this data base is to gather all the information regarding the members of the Umayyad administration. Thanks to this sophisticated tool it has been possible to identify and characterize the different layers of the inner circle of power of the Caliphs. The strong hierarchy prevailing in this circle is shown. It begins with the members of the ruling dynasty and includes a number of families who make up the core of the strong state-aparatus of the Caliphate an are closely related among them.
