Potencial agrobiotecnológico de endófitos bacterianos

Abstract

Los endófitos se definen como "bacterias (en las que se centra esta ponencia) y hongos que pueden ser detectados en un momento determinado en el interior de los tejidos de plantas aparentemente sanas y sin producir síntomas visibles". Los microorganismos fitopatógenos, las bacterias productoras de nódulos fijadores de N2 y los hongos de la rnicorriza también pueden exhibir endofitismo durante parte de su vida, pero no entran en la definición anterior. La mayor parte de Jos componentes del 'microbioma' asociado a plantas coloniza y persiste en las superficies de sus tejidos/órganos o en la rizosfera, pero algunos pueden también establecerse como endófitos no-deletéreos. Es muy probable que todas las especies vegetales sean portadoras de una asombrosa diversidad de endófitos que, a su vez, desempeñan un papel relevante aunque poco conocido en el estado fitosanitario de aquéllas, en su desarrollo, y en la adaptación a diversos tipos de estrés. Las potentes aproximaciones metagenómicas y las metodologías independientes del cultivo microbiológico están revelando la enorme complejidad que tienen las comunidades endófitas, mucho mayor que la adquirida mediante las tradicionales técnicas cultivo-dependientes, enriqueciendo nuestro conocimiento sobre la diversidad y abundancia de Jos microbiomas endófitos. Es importante subrayar que la capacidad endófita de una determinada bacteria debe ser verificada mediante técnicas de microscopía, además de demostrar su capacidad de colonizar los tejidos internos de la planta a partir de la inoculación de semillas desinfectadas. Por tanto, el simple aislamiento desde tejidos desinfectados en superficie no es criterio suficiente para considerar a un endófito como tal.
