The Taco volcano (Tenerife) is a good example of water-magma interaction conditioned by its location in a coastal plane. This is an increasing interaction which, at the beginning of the eruption, takes material form in the way of rhythmical increments in the degree of pyroclast fragmentation, with short periods of high energy. The most sizeable processes of hydro-magmatic interaction develop during the terminal phase and the manifestations of explosive volcanism range from pyroclast falls to massive beds and accretional lapilli. The ejected materials have undergone a petrological and geochemical study, where special attention has been paid to accretional lapilli. An interaction model has finally been developed, calculating the energy associated to the various phases and the eruptive mechanisms.
