Abstract

[EN] This study undertakes a contextualised analysis of the studies on pellagrous psychosis made by Bartolomé Llopis in besieged Madrid during the Spanish Civil War. Hunger and the living conditions created by the war gave rise to important nutritional deficiencies which translated into a significant incidence of deficiency neuropathies (avitaminosis-related) and pellagra. This situation «facilitated» the study of pellagrous patients with psychiatric symptoms, giving rise to a number of contributions of interest, which not only described the neuropsychiatric clinical process of pellagra, but also took these findings as a theoretical model for recovering the concept of a single psychosis.
