Abstract

[ES] En el transcurso de los últimos años se ha manifestado una creciente sensibilización pública en todo lo concerniente a los aspectos ecológico y sanitario del mercurio. El auge de tal interés se relaciona con los casos de intoxicación producidos al ingerir pescado contaminado con metilmercurio (Bahía de Minamata, años 1953-1960). Aunque el tema ha sido tratado con notable extensión, existiendo una amplia bibliografía al respecto, referente al mar Mediterráneo no existen gran número de datos y éstos son especialmente escasos en lo que a sedimentos se refiere (Bernhard, 1978). [EN] Mercury analysis were done by A.A.S. according to the cold vapor technique. It can be seen that the mercury content is higher as we approach the surface of the sediment and also as we approach the shore line. We have found a difference of three orders of magnitude between upper levels near the shore and deep levels far from the shore. Also for similar depths, the samples extracted at the North have a lower concentration than those extracted at the South
