[EN] Heavy metals concentration (Hg, Pb, Cd, V and Ni) in sediments from the spanish mediterranean continental shelf was analyzed. Relative low levels of these microcontaminants were found in all studied zones, but some areas showed high values (Besós, Llobregat, Ebro, Valencia and Cartagena). A clear correlation exists bet-ween the use of the river basin and the levels of heavy metals present in sediments. It is also important the influence of general dynamics of the ecosystem in spill-zones of contaminants. [...]
