El género Ariasa fué descrito por 1. Bolívar (1912: 11, 27), sobre una sola hembra de un Pamphaginae colectada por J. Arias Encobet en Melilla (Marruecos), durante el mes de junio de 1909. Veintisiete arios más tarde, B. P. Uvarov (1939: 458) consideró al nombre de Ariasa I. Bolívar como un nomen preoccupatum, ya que siete arios antes de que lo usara I. Bolívar fué utilizado él por W. L. Distant (1905: 310, 314) para nominar así a un nuevo género suyo de hemíptero americano, razón que obligó al conocido autor ruso a eliminar dicho apelativo y a substituirlo por el suyo de Ariasus.
