Viele Orthopteren der Famiiien Phasmidae, Mantidae, Tettigonüdae und Acrididae zeigen die Erscheinung des Dichroismus, indem sie in einer grünen und einer grauen bis bräunlichen Form vorkommen, entweder ohne irgendwelche Übergänge oder in Mischfärbungen an einzelnen Körperteilen. Besonders bei den Acrididae finden sich bei einzelnen Gattungen und Arten zahlreiche Mischformen, noch erweitert durch Rufinismus und Melanismus.
