[EN] A sketch of the Cuban writer and politician Jose Marti (1853-1895), with special attention to the validity of his ethical thinking, which is the basis of his permanent relevance. Marti was the organizer and leader of the last American war against European colonialism, but the deep commitment he made to that struggle turned it into a war of national liberation, the first concrete movement against imperialism. Among the most original features of Marti’s thought are the proclamation of the equality of races; the search for overcoming class differences through the balance of social forces; solidarity with the poor being considered a duty; the preaching of a “war without hates” that must be the work of the people, its leaders; the comprehension and definition of Our America; the insistence on the need, throughout Latin America, of cultural decolonization; and an anti-imperialistic stance.
